Promoting Nutrition with Individuals in Assisted Living

Just as no two assisted living facilities are exactly the same, neither are the residents who reside under their care. There are numerous factors that must be considered by the team of assisted living professionals in order to optimize positive nutritional status. A few of the most important factors to analyze are; a current physical assessment , careful review of lifetime and current eating patterns, meal-snack intake, and a review of risk factors such as but not limited to dementia, depression and poor dentition. We will examine real-life situations in an effort to provide practical and helpful hints toward promoting optimum nutrition for those residing in both independent and assisted living settings.

Presented by Susan Kezal, director of admissions and community relations at Fallbrook Woods Residential Care at 60 Merrymeeting Drive in Portland.
