SMAA to offer Tai Chi for health and balance

Does the winter weather have you feeling down? Perhaps you worry about falling on icy steps. Or maybe you just want to start the new year with a renewed focus on improving your health.

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging is pleased to announce its newest Agewell program: Tai Chi for Health and Balance.

Tai Chi is known as one of the most effective exercises for physical and mental well-being!

Tai Chi for Health and Balance is designed to help you:

  • Improve flexibility and balance
  • Increase strength and mobility
  • Feel more relaxed, reduce stress and anxiety
  • Experience better breathing
  • Improve overall health

Who should try Tai Chi? Tai chi for Health and Balance is open to folks of all ages, but is especially helpful for older adults who have concerns about balance and mobility, or who have chronic pain or chronic health issues, and are interested in improving their health with a fun, easy to learn, gentle exercise program.

Classes starting January 26 & 27. Cost: $89 per 8 week segment (16 classes). Classes meet twice a week. Participants are highly encouraged to experience the full 24 week program, offered in 3-eight week segments. Space is limited, registration required. Limited number of partial scholarships available.

Tai Chi for Health and Balance is a Healthy Aging Program offered by the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA). This evidence-based program was designed for the Arthritis Foundation by Dr. Paul Lam and a team of medical and Tai Chi experts. It is also known as Tai Chi for Arthritis.
